Our Curriculum
Our Curriculum Intent
Our curriculum is rooted in a holistic approach, recognising that every child is unique, with their own interests, experiences, starting points and individual needs. Our curriculum is carefully designed to ensure that all children, including those who may need additional support, have the knowledge, skills and experiences they need to thrive and make progress.
We provide a safe, secure and nurturing environment where children feel valued, respected and emotionally supported. Strong, responsive relationships are central to our practice, enabling children to develop secure attachments, confidence, resilience and a positive sense of self. We ensure that children feel safe to express their feelings, take part in learning and develop their independence.
We place communication and language at the heart of our curriculum. Through high-quality interactions, conversations, stories, rhymes, songs and a language-rich environment, we support children to develop their vocabulary, listening skills and ability to express themselves. We foster a genuine love of books and stories and use them to develop children’s imagination, understanding and knowledge of the wider world.
We recognise the importance of cultural capital in preparing children for their future. We provide rich and varied experiences that extend children’s knowledge beyond their immediate experiences, broaden their understanding of the world and promote respect for different cultures, beliefs, traditions and ways of life. Diversity is celebrated throughout our curriculum, ensuring that every child feels represented, included and valued.
Our environment is carefully planned to promote curiosity, exploration and purposeful learning. Children have regular opportunities to explore nature, understand the importance of recycling and develop an early awareness of sustainability. Through these experiences, children learn to care for their environment, develop a sense of responsibility and understand how their actions can make a difference.
We follow children’s interests, fascinations and individual starting points, using these as opportunities to deepen learning and extend their knowledge and skills. Adults skilfully observe, listen and respond to children, adapting experiences and interactions to build on what children already know and can do. This ensures that learning is purposeful while allowing children to develop through meaningful play and exploration.
We promote independence, resilience and positive attitudes to learning. Children are encouraged to make choices, solve problems, persevere when faced with difficulties and take increasing responsibility for themselves and their environment. We provide appropriate opportunities for children to take managed risks and experience challenge, helping them to develop confidence, self-awareness and an understanding of how to keep themselves and others safe.
Our values underpin every aspect of our provision. We support children to become kind, respectful, resilient and confident individuals who understand the importance of positive relationships, cooperation and consideration for others. We model these values consistently and provide children with opportunities to practise them throughout the day.
We are committed to ensuring that children know more, remember more and can do more as they progress through our provision. Our curriculum builds progressively on children’s prior learning and experiences, preparing them for the next stage of their education and for life beyond the early years.
Ultimately, our aim is for every child to leave our setting as a confident, capable and curious learner, equipped with the communication skills, knowledge, independence, resilience and positive relationships they need to succeed.
