Madcaps and Mini Madcaps
Quality Care in a Fun and Stimulating Environment
In the first term of the school year we will be getting to know each other and finding out about each other. We will look at ourselves in details, painting our portraits using mirrors, making the house or flat we each live in and looking at our family structures.
Zoolab are visiting us early in the term and we will be looking at insects and animals in details.
In our circle times we will get to know each other and talk about lots of things like sharing and caring.
We will be learning to develop more independence and will be supporting the children in going to the toilet, washing their hands, putting on their own coats and shoes and lots more.
We will be going to see Richard from Roar Stars every Friday in the school hall and having lots of fun based around using footballs and other sports equipment.
We will celebrate Harvest and learn about where some of our food comes from, farms and other places. We will look at some aspects of bread making in details, including making our own bread and reading The Little Red Hen.
We will look at Autumn and the changes it brings, and at hibernation as the weather gets colder.
There will be various festivals to celebrate and discover including Bonfire Night, Diwali and eventually - Christmas!
In the Spring term we will learn about the cold, cold countries, cold food, keeping warm in winter, helping animals and birds in cold weather, playing with ice and lots more. We will look further into food and how we cook and eat certain foods in the winter. We will encourage independent baking. Children will continue to develop their skills at taking care of themselves, fastening coats and shoes, finding their own things.
We will celebrate Chinese New Year, Mothers' Day and Easter.
In the Summer term we will look at bugs, insects, growing flower and vegetables. We will learn about life cycles of plants and various animals, insects and other creatures. We will have caterpillars to hatch and watch the butterflies flying away, In some summers we will have eggs to hatch, we usually have ducklings.
We will focus on transition - some of the children going into the pre-school room and our pre-school going to school. We are lucky enough to have such a great relationship with the school at Market Deeping that their staff come and visit us every week in the Summer term, getting to know everyone, particularly those children who may struggle with the changes, or who have Special Needs.
We will continue to practise independence and will focus on PE and changing clothes, finding our own things afterwards. We will visit Reception class and spend time with the children there doing activities.
We will go on a trip in July - we will announce where we are going nearer the time.
