Madcaps and Mini Madcaps

Quality Care in a Fun and Stimulating Environment

Welcome

ABOUT US

Madcaps was set up in May 1995 as a small out of school club to provide childcare for children at Market Deeping CP School.  We have grown from that small beginning to now, we have 3 generations of our family working together, plus some lovely guys who are like family to us.  It is the family atmosphere which has kept Madcaps grounded despite growing much bigger over the years.  We provide childcare all year round, with children regularly attending from both Market Deeping CP School and William Hildyard school.

In school holidays children come to us from a lot of other schools.

Our Ofsted inspections are always either Good or Outstanding and we are proud of our achievements.

We encourage the children to be part of our team, we have a children's committee to help guide us in the directions we will take and some of  our older children take  part in staff interviews so that they can help to find people they like and relate to.

We have an open house policy and encourage families to come and look round and meet us before they decide to come (Covid rules permitting).

OUR ROOMS & GARDENS

Visitors to our setting are often surprised at the size of our building, it looks small from the outside but is much bigger than you expect when you come inside.

We have two main rooms, both large and with provision for both the out of school children and the nursery children.  Each room has a wide variety of games and activities available.

We have a dining room, kitchen, craft area, construction area and a long corridor for other activities.  There are two toilet blocks, one for each age group.  All our loos and basins have interactive flushing, maintaining good hygiene.

We have two gardens, our front garden is used for forest school based learning and is a very natural space under the trees.  With the wonderful shade that provides we are able to access the garden in all weathers and our Nursery children, particularly, spend a lot of time there.  We also have a fire pit and make soup and snacks there.

Our second garden is called the Sand Garden because it is predominantly a huge sandpit.  There is a double slide and other climbing equipment, plus our builders yard.  Also that is where our chickens live, the children love playing next to them and chatting to them.

In the evenings and school holidays we also use the school playground and field for our varied sports and games.

OPENING TIMES

We are open from 7.30 - 9.00 and 3.15 - 6.00 for our Out of School Club during term-time.

Pre-school opening hours are 9.00 - 3.00 but families do have the option of choosing wrap around care from 7.30 - 6.00.

During school holidays the Out of School Club is open from 7.30 - 6.00.

CHILDREN'S SAFETY AND WELFARE

Madcaps is secured with locked gates at each exit and we have a camera view of visitors to ensure security is maintained.  We deliver children to their classrooms via the corridor access and collect them the same way, thereby keeping them in a safe group away from the playground.

All our staff with the exception of college students have both a First Aid and a Food Hygiene qualification and all staff undertake Safeguarding and other statutory safety training each year.

MADCAPS IN THE COMMUNITY

We maintain very strong links with our host school, Market Deeping CP School, our children begin going into the school at the start of their pre-school year for activities and we work closely with the school to share other celebrations, for example, sports day.  Staff from the Reception team spend time with us and we visit them, where we feel it is of benefit for individual children we will create an individual transition programme with the school.  We work closely with the school's SEN team to support families we share, supporting families together when there is a need.  When children transition into school we work closely with individual class teachers to support their needs and to act as a liaison with parents where necessary.

Whilst we are not the on site out of school provision for William Hildyard School, we also have a long history of shared support for the children who attend our setting from there.

For many years Madcaps has provided the Summer Playscheme for Market Deeping Town Council, there is a long and established relationship between us and we really value the help and support we have received from the Council.  More recently we have also run the Summer Playscheme for Deeping St. James Town Council too and again, we greatly value their interest and support in our activities.

More recently Madcaps has been running the HAF scheme for local children during school holidays, enabling us to form really strong links and support for some of our families.

Madcaps has a good relationship with local businesses and we often take our children to Tesco, local cafes, the library, the park, the memorial gardens, the vets and several other places.  We travel to Waterside garden centre at seasonal points in the year to buy plants or see their displays, animals and fish.    We have greatly valued the support we have had, particularly from Tesco when we are fund raising.

Our children have visited several home for the elderly, particularly around Christmas time, when we make cakes and cards for them.

We like to remember the people in our community who help us and we love to make cards to thank them.

OUR PETS

We have always found that our animals have been popular with the children.  Some of our children aren't able to have pets at home and really love helping to feed and look after them.  Others just enjoy a quiet cuddle with one of the guinea pigs.

We currently have 8 chickens, 2 guinea pigs and a tropical fish tank.

Horrid Henry (he’s not horrid at all!)
